The International Olympic Committee has hailed the handshakes of representatives from the two Koreas at yesterday's opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
South Korea's President Moon Jae-in shook hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's younger sister Kim Yo-jong, as well as the North's ceremonial head of state Kim Yong-nam, at the VIP sitting area in the Olympic Stadium.
At a press conference today, IOC spokesman Mark Adams referred to the situation as "a historic moment", and a "great symbol and great indication of maybe how things can be."
He did stress though, that the Olympic Games are not for politics, adding he doesn't think an opening ceremony can solve problems of the world.■
