Tomorrow against Thailand, Kim Kwang-hyun who plays professional ball for the SK Wyverns will start for Korea, with a KBO all star lineup behind him.
But while Korea is heavily favored to win tomorrow, the road to the gold will have to go through Japan.
Korea and Japan were drawn into separate groups, but Japan got the better draw, being grouped with China and relative minnows Pakistan and Mongolia.
Korea's group consists of not only Thailand, but also Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong, which are dark horses to win the gold.
Baseball is a game in which the best team doesn't always win, and with Japan expected to have a cakewalk to the first seed from their group, Korea must also win its group to hopefully avoid a semifinal confrontation with Japan, hopefully reserving that matchup for a dramatic final.
