Foreign news journalists based in Seoul have expressed "grave concern" towards the ruling Democratic Party's criticism against a Bloomberg News reporter who displayed President Moon Jae-in as "top spokesman" of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in a report last year.
Criticizing the reporter by name, the Democratic Party accused her of writing a treacherous story and thereby insulting the President.
This follows a recent remark made by main opposition Liberty Korea Party floor leader Na Kyung-won, in which she referred to President Moon as Kim Jong-un's spokesman, apparently citing the foreign media report.
The Seoul Foreign Correspondents' Club issued a statement targeted at the DP, saying the singling out of a Bloomberg reporter has resulted in "serious threats to her personal safety," adding it is disturbing for a politician to accuse a journalist of treason.■
