The government has cracked down on dozens of fake news cases since its special investigation launched last month.
Korean National Police Agency Commissioner General Min Gap-ryong said the agency is investigating at least 19 cases and have requested some 36 be removed.
Police are focusing on cases where malicious intent is behind false information, and strengthening analytic teams as a response.
Min said that while freedom of expression is a basic right for citizens, police will launch investigations into obviously fraudulent or damaging publications.■
