Officers will start disassembling 24,000 radioactive mattresses made by Daijin Bed that were found to release radon at alarming levels from the coming Tuesday.
Radon is a radioactive gas considered a health hazard as exposure to the substance can cause lung cancer.
Residents have agreed to the operation, just after 3 days of protest in front of Daijin's headquarters at Cheonan, South Chungcheong.
They have shown strong protest against transporting the controversial mattresses into the area and plans to disjoint them due to safety concerns.■
