• Seoul City News: Samil-dae-ro To Be Transformed Into Symbolic Road By 2019

And now for a look at news and happenings in Seoul this week, Julie Sohn reports.

Samil-dae-ro, located between Anguk Station and Tapgol Park in Seoul, has been facing criticism for not properly maintaining historic relics in the area.

Ahead of the 100th anniversary of the March 1st independence movement next year, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced plans to transform the 1.7 kilometer section of road into a symbolic street.

The city plans to complete the project by March next year, in which it will set up various facilities, including a museum and public cultural spaces for citizens to learn more about the meaningful day.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is encouraging civic organizations to be at the forefront of solving diverse social problems the city is facing.

Seoul city has launched a program called 'Social Innovation Living Lab,' and is currently recruiting civic groups interested in the project until May 14th.

The selected groups will be eligible for state support of up to 30 million won to lead in solving social problems, ranging from parking issues, garbage problems to school violence.

Seoul city will hold an 11-day welcoming week for foreign tourists beginning tomorrow.

Coinciding with Japan's Golden Week as well as China's Labor Day, the city aims to attract more tourists through special activities and discount events.

The city will set up various promotion booths at Cheonggye Plaza, as well as welcoming centers at major tourist sites such as Myeongdong, Namsan, and COEX to help foreign visitors.
