President Moon Jae-in says South Korea will gladly join hands with Japan if it accepts calls to resolve the ongoing trade dispute through dialogue.
In a nationally televised address marking the 74th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, President Moon emphasized that the neighbors should overcome the past and move toward the future together.
He added, however, that Japan should first stop using trade as a "weapon," warning that the peaceful free trade order will inevitably suffer.
On inter-Korean relations, he pledged achieve peace and unification by 2045, which will mark the 100th anniversary of liberation.■
