Lawmakers have submitted a formal request to the National Assembly for the establishment of an independent investigation into the Choi scandal as well as an audit into the government.
The request for the audit was submitted jointly by 191 lawmakers, including the floor leaders of the Saenuri, the Democratic Party, People's Party and Justice Party.
Separately, the Democratic Party's floor leader Woo Sang-ho tabled a bill for an independent prosecutor team to the National Assembly Secretariat, which was jointly signed by 209 lawmakers.
The bill for the audit will be reviewed by the Legislation and Judiciary Committee today.
It will have to go through a regular session tomorrow and pass the Cabinet meeting next Tuesday in order to be implemented.■
