The number of people missing from a Philippine ferry disaster dropped from 170 to 85 today, but officials say the lower figure is due to tallying issues and not rescues.
Navy spokesman Lieutenant Commander Gregory Fabic said stormy weather had prevented divers from reaching the interior of the sunken vessel, where many of those missing were believed trapped.
Niel Sanchez of the provincial disaster management office said they were maintaining hope, but cautioned the odds of finding any more survivors were low.
The ferry was carrying more than 800 people when it collided with a cargo ship Friday night, near the port of Cebu.■
