Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has been named an honorary dame, which is the female version of a knight, by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.
The Oscar-winning actress, who is also a special envoy for the United Nations, received the honor for her work combating sexual violence in war zones.
She said the honor meant a great deal to her, adding that she wished to dedicate her working life to foreign policy.
Jolie was one among hundreds of people recognized in the queen's annual Birthday Honors List, which also included fellow Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis who was made a knight.■
