• (Report) 'World War Z' Remains Strong In Local Box Office

Hollywood's 200 million budget zombie film 'World War Z' remained popular last weekend as it topped the local box office for the second consecutive week with an impressive tally of 931,000 admissions and has now amassed 3.6 million ticket sales.

In second place was local horror film 'Killer Toon' featuring local star Lee Si-young that opened with an underwhelming 390,000 viewers. Although not disastrous, on the back of strong reviews, it was expected to perform better as the annual horror season gets into full swing.

In third place was Roland Emmerich's'White House Down' with a very disappointing 274,000 viewers reflecting the poor opening weekend in the U.S where it took just 24 million dollars on its opening weekend.

Emmerich who has a proven track record at the box office following hits such as 'Independence Day' was expected to attract viewers with his eye-catching visuals and fun but simplistic storytelling.

Moving on to this weekend, local thriller 'Cold Eyes' starring Sol Gyeong-gu, Han Hyo-joo and Jung Woo-sung is expected to dominate this weekend following strong reviews by local critics together with its star power.

Since its release on Wednesday its attracted over 400,000 viewers and remained top of the daily box office chart.

In contrast is multi-million budget film 'The Lone Ranger' starring Johnny Depp that has met very poor reviews and appears to be struggling after it opened yesterday with a meager 42,000 admissions, which certainly doesn't bode well for this weekend. ■
