A motel worker, who is accused of brutally murdering a guest in August, has been sentenced to life in prison.
The Uijeongbu District Court handed down its verdict today on charges of murder, body dismemberment and concealment.
The court said the decision was made based on the judgment that permanently isolating the accused was a reasonable punishment as his attitude made a mockery of the victim and the judiciary without remorse or guilt.
Prosecutors had earlier sought the death penalty, saying his crime was cruel and premeditated.
The 39-year-old suspect admitted to killing the victim, a 32-year-old guest, using a knife and hammer and disposing the dismembered body into the Han River.■
