A one-minute siren will wail across Jeju Island tomorow to remember the victims of the April 3 Jeju massacre in 1948.
The Interior and Safety Ministry said the siren will go off at 10 a.m. when the 70th anniversary memorial ceremony takes place.
This is the first time for a minute of silence to take place across the island, with a siren to commemorate the lives lost during the massacre.
More than 10,000 Jeju residents are estimated to have been killed and nearly 3,600 others to have gone missing through atrocities committed by government forces between 1948 and 1954.■
