Former Democratic Party Chairman Sohn Hak-kyu has announced that he will join the minor opposition People’s Party.
He said the move aims to change the political landscape, reform power and lift the country out of crisis.
Sohn also signaled his intent to run for the presidency.
Meanwhile, Kim Boo-kyum (김부겸) of the Democratic Party has announced that he will not run in the next presidential election.
The withdrawal from the presidential race of him and Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon has left the Democratic Party with three nominees; former leader Moon Jae-in, South Chungcheong Governor An Hee-jung, and Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung. ■
