The military has begun an extensive investigation into last month's troublesome search for a fugitive army sergeant who went on a deadly shooting spree.
Criticism has arose over the military's massive manhunt to capture the sergeant, surnamed Lim, who fled after killing five of his comrades at the eastern border post in Goseong.
He was captured two days later, some 9 kilometers away from his barracks after making a botched suicide attempt.
During their search, thousands of troops ran into Lim three times but failed to apprehend him, with Lim himself telling military police that he came across the troops six times.
The task force for the investigation is made up of about 40 officers. ■
