The prosecution is widening its net and has started focusing on members of Choi Soon-sil's family.
Jang Si-ho, Choi's niece is the first to be investigated and has already been slapped with a travel ban.
It is believed she benefitted from her aunt's influence in sports-related state projects.
Last June, Jang established the Korea Winter Sports Elite Center, an organization to cultivate young athletes.
In a short period of time it earned surprising support, collecting 670 million won in government subsidies and some 500 million won from Samsung Electronics to fund training camps.
She is suspected of attempting to gain control over projects for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Prosecutors also have their sights on Jang's mother, Choi Soon-deuk(최순득), Choi's older sister, who may have pocketed 3 billion won from shady assets.■
