The lawyer representing Yoo Som-na, the daughter of the fugitive de-facto owner of the Sewol ferry, says she is a political scapegoat.
Speaking to international media, Patrick Maisonneuve said the Korean government victimized Yoo Byung-eun and his family as it needed a scapegoat to pin the blame on the disaster.
Som-na has been arrested in Paris and is awaiting a possible extradition hearing.
A decision on whether Yoo should be extradited is likely to take months as French authorities will have to satisfy themselves that there is a legitimate basis for the request.■
