The country's first concert arena will open in northern Seoul in 2024.
The Seoul city government unveiled its plan to build Seoul Arena near Chang-dong Station in the Dobong district.
The arena, with a maximum capacity of 18,000 seats, will have its stage in the center, enabling the audience to enjoy performances from every direction.
The city said the arena will be able to hold more than 90 large-scale performances a year, including K-pop concerts, music awards and circus shows.
The move comes as K-pop has gained attention not only in Asia but also in the United States and Europe in recent years.
Despite its success, the country has yet to feature a K-pop concert hall, with many large-scale performances being held at sports facilities such as World Cup Stadium or Jamsil Stadium.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September of next year with an investment of some 520 billion won.
