  • ≡ 3rd Largest Quake Of Year Hits North Gyeongsang Province

    [Anchor] A 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck the central city of Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province today. The quake occurred at 11:04 a.m. with no damage or injuries reported. Amos Kim reports. [Reporter] Today's tremor was the third-strongest of this year following a 4.3 magnitude earthquake near the city of Donghae in April, and a 4.1 magnitude earthquake off the southeastern city of Pohang in February. An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration has said that there was no damage resulting from the tremblor. Over 100 reports were made about the quake in the province with even seven cases coming from Seoul. Residents in the nearby city of Daejeon and other counties said they felt a vibration, with some saying they heard a loud sound. According to plant operators, the quake did not affect the nuclear power plants or radioactive waste disposal facilities in the region. Amos Kim, eFM News.■[2019.07.21]

  • ≡ Over 10,000 Elderly Drivers Return License In Seoul

    More than 10,000 senior drivers in Seoul have turned in their licenses this year as part of the city government's program to reduce traffic accidents caused by the elderly. According to the Seoul city government, 10,200 citizens over the age of 70 applied for a public transportation card after relinquishing their licenses in the first half of this year. The city has been issuing the public transportation cards with a value of 100,000 won in an effort to bring down elderly driver accident rates.■ [2019.07.21]

  • ≡ Typhoon Danas Causes Damage In The Southern Region Of S. Korea

    Typhoon Danas which passed through the Korean Peninsula yesterday has left some damage in the southern region. In Gurye, South Jeolla Province, eight vacationers were rescued 40 minutes after they were stranded in heavy rain. Over in Busan, 11 people were evacuated from residential lodgings due to cracked buildings and landslides. A total of 93 cases of property damage and flooding were reported in Jeju, as well as 156 cases in Busan.■ [2019.07.21]

  • ≡ Heat Wave Advisories To Be Issued Monday Morning Throughout Nation

    Monsoon rain over the weekend did little to cool down temperatures, with hot and humid weather expected to return across the country. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, heat wave advisories will take effect in most parts of the peninsula from 10 a.m. tomorrow. The regions include Seoul, Sejong, Daegu, Daejeon, North Chungcheong, and parts of North Gyeongsang, Gangwon, and Gyeonggi provinces with daytime highs forecast to rise to up to 33 degrees. Children and the elderly are advised to avoid staying out in the sun and heat for extended periods of time and to stay hydrated. Weather authorities say the heat wave will continue until Tuesday before light rain cools down the heat slightly on Wednesday.■[2019.07.21]
