≡ Parliament To Scrutinize KORAIL, N. Korea Cooperation
The finance, welfare, labor and transport ministries will be scrutinized by lawmakers as the parliamentary audit continues.
In particular, the land infrastructure and transport committee is expected to question KORAIL and its subsidiary SR on allegations that they gave job favors to relatives of their employees.
Rival parties are likely to clash over the government's initiative for railway and road connections between the two Koreas and concerns they could violate international sanctions.
Meanwhile, the strategy and finance committee will conduct on-site inspections at the Port of Incheon and the Incheon Main Customs office.■

≡ BMW Expands Recall To 1.6 Mln Cars Worldwide Over Engine Fire Risk
BMW has announced it is expanding a recall to cover an additional 1.6 million vehicles worldwide over concerns that a coolant leak could spark a fire.
The German automaker said on Tuesday that leakage from the exhaust gas recirculation cooler could combine with soot deposits and potentially result in the melting of the intake manifold in the engine or fire.
The action covers models produced between 2010 and 2017.
In August, BMW recalled over 2 million vehicles for this issue, mostly in Asia and Europe.
Only 54,700 vehicles were said to be affected in the United States and Canada.
South Korea reported 40 related fires this year, prompting government warnings and a police investigation.■[2018.10.24]
